leather wasn't as soft as I would have liked

Thank you for your review and feedback. Please note a simple tip for keeping this bag looking good and fresh. As this is natural finish leather (drum dyed), you can use any light moisturizer (available at home) and apply it to the bag with a soft cloth and lightly rub it in. That will keep the leather supple and keep it looking rich. Recommended that you do it once every month or a month and a half.
